Responsible lake tourism in the Längelmävesi and Roine archipelagos
Lake Escape Destinations is a carefully built network of camping islands that serves as the backbone of responsible lake tourism in the Längelmävesi and Roine regions. The island network forms a coherent canoeing and hiking trail that connects to other outdoor recreation trails in the area, providing a diverse and accessible experience on the lake.
Unlike transient camping in the public right of way, Lake Escape sites offer planned and serviced shore and overnight camping. The islands have tent sites, fire pits, dry toilets, sorting stations and supplied drinking water and firewood.
Use of the island network is based on paid services, the revenue from which is used to maintain and develop the sites. Hikers can concentrate on enjoying nature without having to carry everything with them. Light and ecological Tentsile accommodation is also available, as well as simple cabin accommodation at selected sites.
Island resort accommodation
You’ll stay on islands, surrounded by nature – without tent poles or land pressure. We offer Tentsile holiday rentals on several of our islands. Accommodation is a comfortable, light and ecological way to spend a night in the archipelago. Tentsile accommodation is ideal for couples and small groups, and can be combined with saunas and camping.
Excursion islands
Lake Escape destinations consist of carefully selected islands where you can stay, sauna and camp. The larger islands have several tent sites, fire pits, a dry latrine and a drinking water point. Some of the islands are quieter and perfect for nature observation and relaxation. The islands can be reached by canoe, boat or with our rental equipment.
Sauna
Three different sauna experiences are available on the islands:
Rantasauna Korkeaisaari (Längelmävesi)
Traditional wood-fired sauna with sauna room and fireplace.
Smoke sauna on the shore of Roine
A genuine, gentle sauna with a barbecue shelter – perfect for an evening out.
Floating saunas
Saunas on the waves – several of our islands have their own floating sauna for use during your excursion.
Hiking trails and canoeing
Lake Escape sites form a network of islands linked by canoeing and water sports routes. The routes are suitable for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, and many of them wind through ridges and sheltered straits. They are linked into ring trails that can be followed by canoe, boat or partly by bike. Route recommendations and maps are provided at the time of rental.
Sustainability
Our activities are part of the Sustainable Travel Finland programme. We focus on eco-mobility, biodiversity conservation and local partners.
For example, we use Tentsile light bulbs, which do not put pressure on the land, and manage visitor numbers to protect the most sensitive natural sites.
